For Father’s Day, here are a few things I am thankful for as a father. Continue reading “Father’s Day thoughts on random texts, parenting and noo noos”

Finally, a column about chip clips!
Today I would like to discuss with you an important topic that I have spent way too much time thinking about recently.
That topic, of course, is chip clips. I’m sure most of you have been thinking about this topic as well.
I love the way chip clips help to keep bags of chips fresh, but even more than that, I love the name Chip Clip.
Chip clip, chip clip, chip clip!
It’s fun to say, and I often find myself interjecting it into tongue twisters and songs. For example: Continue reading “Finally, a column about chip clips!”
Pets provide me with unconditional love! (Except when they are annoyed with me)
The pets at my house are often annoyed with me.
We have a small dog and a small cat in our family, and they bring us incredible amounts of joy and hair.
And while I know they love us and appreciate how we feed them, house them and assist them in different ways, I often notice how I seem to be annoying them. Here are a few examples: Continue reading “Pets provide me with unconditional love! (Except when they are annoyed with me)”
Ore or oar? A family of words with the same sounds but different spellings
One interesting and occasionally frustrating part of the English language involves words that sound exactly the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings.
These words are homophones and according to the people over there, they’re their favorite types of words.
Personally I’d like to carve these words into stone, but would wood be better? I recently noticed that one family of words seems to have won the homophones championship, and I asked myself, “Is this something people want to know? No or yes?” Continue reading “Ore or oar? Graduation advice to help you succeed in life! Or to at least help you learn to make your own ketchup
This is high school graduation weekend in town, and it is a big occasion for my family.
The youngest kids in the family are graduating and everyone is gathering together to celebrate their accomplishments and give them gifts. The best (and least expensive) present I can present is advice, so here are some commencement comments for the graduates of 2018 here in my town and wherever you may be reading this. A few items you think about when you have an injury
After hurting my back recently in an impressive sports injury, I had a lot of time to think.
Most of my pondering was about important topics such as why bad things only happen to me and what the Avengers will do next, but a few were focused on items that you think about when you have an injury.
I am sharing a few of the thoughts here in order to see if you share any similar questions or epiphanies when you have a sore back, sprained ankle or painful ouchie. Continue reading “A few items you think about when you have an injury”
The rise of superhero movies like Avengers: Infinity War, and what it means to a mild-mannered comic book fan
When I was growing up, I was lucky enough to have a comic book subscription.
I don’t know how or when it started, but each month for several years, the mailman delivered the latest issue of Amazing Spider-Man to my mailbox. It was easily the best mail I received each month and I always looked forward to it. (Full disclosure, it was also the only mail received most months.) Continue reading “The rise of superhero movies like Avengers: Infinity War, and what it means to a mild-mannered comic book fan”
An open letter to Spring
Dear Spring,
I am writing to you in order to share my concern over some of your recent work. Frankly, it has been substandard to say the least. Continue reading “An open letter to Spring”
This post is a TOTAL WITCH HUNT!
The President is very concerned about witch hunts.
Our expert team of fake investigative reporters have determined, though, that he is also obsessed with other types of hunts and they have put together this list for us. I should add that they are probably greatest fake reporters ever with the biggest fake minds, and this is the listiest list you will see today, which is the greatest day ever. Continue reading “This post is a TOTAL WITCH HUNT!”
A Season on the Brink of Old Age: Part One
As a high-level (of age) athlete, I am fortunate to take part in several recreational sports activities in my community.
And in order to benefit humanity, I have decided to document my sports season for 2018 here on this blog. You’re welcome.
Actually, I thought the blog would be a good way to motivate me to get into better shape this year, play lots of sports and share some fun experiences. I am often involved in recreational soccer and softball, along with the famous Athens Jogging Club. We are trying to get a basketball game going again, too, and I plan to start exercising more in the summer, so this series will look at interesting (I hope) aspects of those events, as well as a few others from 2018.
