A few New Year’s Resolutions for my blog

While I am a few days behind, I wanted to share a few New Year’s Resolutions for my blog.

I’m doing this partially to see if I can stick to this list and partially to see if anyone else has any other suggestions. Also, posting this is a good way to keep up with a resolution to produce more posts.

So, please see what you think and feel free to offer any comments, criticisms or candies. I always like candy. Continue reading “A few New Year’s Resolutions for my blog”

What’s the deal with rhetorical questions? Read on for the answer (and additional pointless thoughts)

Life is filled with many great questions, such as “Why are we here?”, “Where is the restroom?” and “Can I really put three question marks in one sentence?”

I may not have the answers to all of those questions, but I do have some important information to share with you today.

Planning is key for your career, personal goals and when you lift the dryer over your head

I picked up some good advice in an unexpected place the other evening.

“Make a plan for what you are going to do before it happens,” was the advice from my friend, Roy The Umpire.

Roy is a very wise man who shares the same middle name as several significant historical figures. I can only assume that he has a family connection to Alexander The Great, Attila The Hun and Dog The Bounty Hunter. Finally, a column about chip clips!

Today I would like to discuss with you an important topic that I have spent way too much time thinking about recently.

That topic, of course, is chip clips. I’m sure most of you have been thinking about this topic as well.

I love the way chip clips help to keep bags of chips fresh, but even more than that, I love the name Chip Clip.

Ore or oar? A family of words with the same sounds but different spellings

One interesting and occasionally frustrating part of the English language involves words that sound exactly the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings.

These words are homophones and according to the people over there, they’re their favorite types of words.

Personally I’d like to carve these words into stone, but would wood be better? I recently noticed that one family of words seems to have won the homophones championship, and I asked myself, “Is this something people want to know? No or yes?” Continue reading “Ore or oar? Graduation advice to help you succeed in life! Or to at least help you learn to make your own ketchup

This is high school graduation weekend in town, and it is a big occasion for my family.

The youngest kids in the family are graduating and everyone is gathering together to celebrate their accomplishments and give them gifts. The best (and least expensive) present I can present is advice, so here are some commencement comments for the graduates of 2018 here in my town and wherever you may be reading this. This post about no-words like no-brainer and no-doubter is a no-thinker

I often hear people say that a decision is a no-brainer, meaning it is relatively simple choice.

That’s fine, but by the same logic I think we should say that a decision that requires some thought is a “brainer.”

“I am not sure what type of bread to buy; this sure is a brainer,” one might say, since bread purchasing is a difficult task. Continue reading “This post about no-words like no-brainer and no-doubter is a no-thinker”
