It’s time we had a talk about cauliflower

For many years, cauliflower was content to stay behind the scenes as a “Wind Beneath Your Wings” type of food item that was there to lift up the other parts of the meal.

No one really ever wanted to eat just cauliflower, but it was fine to add to a salad, stew, curry, pasta, pizza or really just about any dish. Recently, though, cauliflower has been receiving acclaim as a “Super Food,” and people seem to be using it more and more often.

But what do we really know about cauliflower anyway? Our crack team of investigators went behind the stem to find out, and what they discovered may surprise you. Continue reading “It’s time we had a talk about cauliflower”

A few thoughts on fall, keyboards and pies in the face

Fall can mean many things to different people.

For some, fall is a time for reflection as we enjoy the fleeting days of warmth and sunshine with family and friends, and we prepare for the winter ahead of us with hope and joy.

For others, it’s a time to eat as much candy, turkey, pie and other foods as possible. Continue reading “A few thoughts on fall, keyboards and pies in the face”

A few thoughts that run through your mind during a conversation

I enjoy talking, sometimes even with other people.

Often in these conversations, though, I find myself having a separate inner dialogue involving additional topics that keep popping into my head. While the inner debates are entertaining, they can make it difficult to also concentrate on the outward conversation, which occasionally causes problems like when I get lost in the discussion or accidentally volunteer to do something

Here is an examples of how the inner conversation might proceed when I am having a discussion with a group of people: Continue reading “A few thoughts that run through your mind during a conversation”

An anonymous op-ed from the resistance inside of Nick’s House

As a low-level official in Nick’s House, I have decided to come forward to let you know that there is an active resistance going on behind the scenes.

For example, if Nick leaves papers on a table and I am worried that those documents may pose a threat, I will knock them to the floor. I have also been known to spill drinks on papers in times of emergency, and have even knocked plants on them if the situation warranted it. ‘Why did the chicken cross the road?’ question results in several very different responses

As part of our continuing study of how people react differently to the exact same situation, we asked all of our test subjects the same question and then wrote down their responses.

Today, we asked them, “Why did the chicken cross the road?”  Here are the answers we received: Continue reading “‘Why did the chicken cross the road?’ question results in several very different responses”

A walk is a nice time to reflect on squirrels, extra socks and my reflection

Walking to work this summer has given me a lot of time to think.

Unfortunately, though, having too much time to think usually just causes me problems.

I had imagined that the walk would be a lovely stroll where I would enjoy the melodies of the birds and cicadas while achieving inner peace.

Instead, the sounds of nature are drowned out by the thoughts cascading through my mind while I am not focused on driving, listening to the radio or doing anything except for walking. Continue reading “A walk is a nice time to reflect on squirrels, extra socks and my reflection”
